Blog #7 - The Past is Present
I think the saying “The past is Present” is saying that the past will always affect the present. Say as a child you got attacked by a dog, even though it’s in the past you’re still afraid of dogs today. The past affected your present. Even though we say it’s all in the past, it never truly is. We are unable to let go of something completely because it is always in our conscience.
Blog #6 - American Authors Assessment
Living in a world full of hypocrites and controversial opinions where if you don’t fit the standard that society holds then you’re not a true American.
Holding true to hope but letting it go as fast as possible as soon as you’re frightened, thinking the man will stick it to you if you don’t follow the leader.
Beliefs are thrown around more than a rag doll.
But nothing ever sticks.
Minds are more cluttered with dysfunctional thoughts and conventional thinking than the person’s actual idealistic motivated ideas.
Filling your days with self absorption and ruth for yourself because you had to work
a nine to five job,
pick up the kids by six,
and have dinner done by the time the man of the house gets home.
It’s despicable to live your life around the concept of time, counting the minutes until your life is more than what you made it to be.
Doing all this in hopes to live up to the standards that are assigned to us at birth,
along with a number in which all of our identity
that we will grow and discover will be nothing more
than a nine digit number in line at every government own building we ever go to,
or for every job we apply for.
It’s the American dream we dream so clearly and want so badly
until one person realizes that; that dream is nothing
more than a dream they try to instill in our minds at birth to keep us from being different and living up to the true potential we each have.
This person who sees out side the confined potential
that is set for us is frowned upon for being something that society doesn’t need.
The standards that we dream to be but never are consists of getting
as much materials as possible in a life time,
trying to leave a legacy, and being what everyone wants us to be,
especially the person who gives us this nine digit number that we give our never discovered individualism too.
It’s time for everyone who idolizes this dream,
this standard,
and this way of living realizes that they will never reach this.
You will never be what society wants because society is made up of controversial hypocrites.

Blog Entry #5 - Updike and O'Connor
I preferred the story Outage. In the story, you get a taste of real life, in many ways, from technology running our lives, to cheating. But in The life you save may be your own, you just get the moral don’t trust people. I think Updike shows his characters motivations better, because you can tell there is something going on when Brad stops in the subdivision.
Blog Entry #4 - Sharon Olds
My favorite poem out of these three was High School Senior by Sharon Olds. I liked this poem better than the other because it’s a mother talking about her raising her daughter, and I feel like its my mother talking to me.
Blog Entry #3 - Cultural Attitudes Questionnaire
I decided to do my questions on single people looking for a relationship. My questions were:(question 1)What does a girl/boy look for in the opposite sex?(question2) Where does a boy/girl go to find a date?(question 3) How might a boy/girl show they are interested in the opposite sex?
The answers were about the same with the girls, and same with the guys.
I asked three girls these questions, and for number one, most of the girls responded with personality, humor, and hygeine. For question two they said Mall, school, gas station, skate park. For my last quesion all of them said flirty, physical contact, and a lot of talking.
With my guys on the other hand, there answers were the same as each others, but on question 1 it was very different from the girls. For question one it was mainly looks and personality. For question two it was normally a club or school. For question three all of the answers were different, one person said be blunt, the second person said joke around with them, and the last person said get to know her more, then take her out.
Unlike the boys, the girls were more conserned with the guys personality than his looks. Bot the girls and guys thought it was easy to get a date at school, but the guys inlike the girls also thought a night club was an easy place to get a date.
Through this you can see how genders differ in there thoughts of finding that special someone, but you can also see where they are similar. My personal opinion is that we are all different in what were looking for, and how we find it, but we all want that one person and thats what all six of these people have in common.
